Home appliance maker Gree failed to make the cut in the latest Fortune Global 500 for the first time since 2019, but it doesn't seem to bother boss DONG Mingzhu. What matters to her is the sustainable development of the company.
Over the past few years, Gree's revenue has been erratic. In 2018, revenue surpassed 200 billion yuan (US$ 27 billion). In 2019, Dong revamped sales, resulting in unchanged revenue. Things moved firmly backward during the pandemic, and these days, Gree is basically an air-conditioning manufacturer, which brings in around 70 percent of the company's cash.
Other domestic electrical giants Midea and Haier have maintained their positions in this year's 500.
