Former Huawei 'boy genius' launches walking, talking robot

AgiBot, a company focused on general-purpose androids (human-like robots) and embodied intelligence, unveiled Yuanzheng A1 only days after Xiaomi’s produced a robot dog.

PENG Zhihui, AgiBot’s co-founder, showed off his 175-centimeter doll in Shanghai this week. It can walk up to 7 kilometers per hour and carry 80 kilograms. The robot was developed in six months and can solve all kinds of intricate puzzles.

AgiBot, founded in February 2023, has secured multiple rounds of financing and boasts a youthful but technically-adept team. Peng, known as a Huawei "young genius" and Bilibili content curator, brings unique attention to the company.

Despite its innovative edge, AgiBot has prioritized practicality. The dexterous hand SkillHand, with 12 active and 5 passive degrees of freedom, aims to revolutionize production scenes. Yuanzheng A1’s applications are only demonstrated in the video, including assembly, sampling, and pouring tasks.

Tesla's comparable Optimus costs around US$20,000 (140,000 yuan). Peng hopes to keep Yuanzheng A1 under 200,000 yuan (US$27,000).

Yuanzheng will be commercialized next year, targeting the industrial manufacturing sector. The company is currently in discussions with several leading manufacturing enterprises.
