Tmall-Taobao begins graduate recruitment drive

Having been spun off from Alibaba in March, Taotian (Taobao + Tmall), the company's e-commerce unit, has embarked on a recruitment campaign, with over 2,000 positions to fill with recent graduates. Over half the vacancies are tech posts.

Amid the challenging landscape that has characterized the internet industry over the past two years, major industry players have had to implement a range of measures, from prudent cost-cutting to organizational streamlining, in order to navigate the unprecedented hurdles. On March 28, Alibaba made the headlines by restructuring into six business units operating as independent subsidiaries. 

E-commerce, a pivotal income source for the group, had functioned as a cash cow for other ventures, potentially hindering its own growth. 

Taotian's revenue hit 115 billion yuan (US$16 in Q2 billion), up 12 percent year-on-year.
