Battery maker CATL showed off the world's first 4C superfast charging LFP battery on Wednesday. Superfast technology, provides a range of 400km with just a ten-minute charge.
EV startup AVATR co-founded by CATL, Huawei and Changan Automobile will be the first brand to use the "Shenxing," as the battery is known. Zeekr and Neta also plan to adopt the CATL tech.
The problem is that most commercial stations cannot charge the Shenxing. CATL has partnered with SUNNIC to build a network, but these stations cost twice as much as regular superfast stations. In the short term, even if vehicles are equipped with the Shenxing, they won't be going far without an update in charging infrastructure.
CATL's M3P battery, launched last year, is doing well. Its energy density surpasses that of traditional LFP batteries while costing less than lithium batteries. The Zhijie S7, a collaboration between Huawei and Chery, will use the M3P. Rumor has it that the Tesla Model 3s might be next in line.
