The first EV model developed by Huawei and Chery will be released this quarter, according to YU Chengdong, CEO of Huawei’s intelligent driving division.
An electric sedan named Luxeed will sport HarmonyOS4, released only days ago.
Chery registered the Luxeed trademark in 2019 but is yet to release a car under the name. In April, Chery announced the production of the Luxeed Steerra ET and ES, but no one mentioned Huawei.
The cars will be built on Chery’s E0X electric platform with a range of over 700 kilometers. Huawei is responsible for intelligent driving and cockpit design.
Huawei’s previous collaborations with BAIC and Seres may pose some challenges for Chery. Seres’ success in 2022 came at the cost of losing control of the brand. Though Chery is not leading the way among the traditional ICE vehicle makers in terms of electrification, the company is very well-established and sells a million vehicles each year, many overseas.
