In August, airfare prices in China have risen to their highest level this year, with the average cost for domestic flights around 1350 yuan (about US$190).
This increase in prices is a response to high demand during the summer vacation peak season and follows the trend of escalating prices in economy hotels, which began soaring in July. The summer has seen high passenger numbers, and airlines have been quick to cash in.
As the country gears up for an 8-day Mid-Autumn and National Day holiday, international travel is also on the rise. Prices to destinations such as Phuket and Osaka have more than doubled for the holiday period.
High cost is also partly down to continuing increases in fuel surcharges as aviation fuel prices rise.
