Volkswagen's sub-brand Jetta is in talks with Chinese EV startup Leap Motor for potential cooperation, a source close to the matter said on Wednesday.
The source said that FAW Group has issued internal documents, indicating that if the cooperation is successful, Jetta will focus on the economy EV market and may relocate its marketing company to Hangzhou, similar to how FAW Audi did.
"Unlike the cooperation between Volkswagen and Xpeng, this time, FAW-Volkswagen is likely to 'buy out' a certain generation of Leap Motor's platform technology," the source said. An employee from FAW-Volkswagen confirmed that the company has had contacts with Leap Motor but is not aware of the specific details, while Leap Motor declined to comment on this matter.
