China's EVs transitioning market-driven to tech-driven

A recent report in the German magazine Automobilwoche revealed that German automaker Audi was considering a partnership with a Chinese EV company. Audi still relies on an architecture shared with other VW-owned brands. Accessing a mature platform would reduce production costs and help Audi in its intention to launch 30 electric models by 2025.

Domestic Chinese brands have emerged as leaders in EV software and hardware. In 2019, Toyota, Daimler and BMW each began collaboration with EV makers.

Low-cost, high-efficiency EV technology is understandably popular in the global market. Technology, rather than a vast market, has become the primary driving for domestic automakers.
