During last week's World Artificial Intelligence Conference, significant progress was reported in autonomous driving by Baidu Apollo, AutoX, and Pony.ai. All three have received permits for fully-driverless road testing on open roads in Shanghai's Pudong New Area.
Baidu Apollo has conducted extensive tests in several cities. AutoX, a leader in the RoboTaxi sector, is focused on developing integrated software and hardware for autonomous driving. Similarly, Pony.ai intends to leverage its technological advantages to establish a closed-loop for commercial RoboTaxis.
The goal is to create a sustainable role for AVs in Shanghai and therby assist development of the intelligent driving industry.
