On July 6, the 2023 World Artificial Intelligence Conference opened at the Shanghai World Expo Center with the announcement of the winners of the SAIL (Superior AI Leader) Awards.

This year, the awards have a prize pool of 2 million yuan (US$300,000) to encourage winners to continue their work.

The following five projects received the SAIL Awards this year:

Oriental.Wind is a three-dimensional wing simulator tool by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC). It improves efficiency and accuracy in wing design and shortens the research and development cycle.

Huawei Cloud Tianchou AI Solver reduces reliance on human decision-making mechanisms.

Qualcomm's second-generation Snapdragon 8 supports on-device generative AI through a hybrid AI architecture suitable for the era of large models.

Drug platform GENTAI uses quantum physics, AI, and robot clusters to make drug development more intelligent. The platform is currently involved in over 180 drug pipelines and serves more than 200 clients.

A research paper by ZHANG Yunwei of Cambridge University proposes using machine learning to analyze and predict the lifespan of lithium-ion batteries. This application has significant value in scenarios such as electric vehicles and portable medical devices.

The SAIL Awards has been an annual event since 2018.
