Temu goes live in Japan

PDD Holdings’ cross-border e-commerce platform Temu opened its Japanese site on July 1, marking its first foray into an Asian country.

PDD Holdings is the parent company of Pinduoduo, the bargain-hunter Chinese e-commerce giant.

Since its initial launch in the United States in September last year, Temu has been expanding its global presence to 23 different countries.

The third-party logistics service providers utilized by Temu in Japan include Sagawa Express, Yamato Transport (Yamato "Takkyubin"), and Japan Mail.

Temu continues to employ its low-price promotion strategy, the highest discount on promotional products reaches up to 90 percent, and free shipping services are provided.

According to feedback from Japanese consumers, the estimated delivery time displayed on Temu's Japan site is about one week. The launch of Temu, along with its low-price strategy, may pose a challenge to local e-commerce giants in Japan, such as Amazon Japan and Rakuten.
