In 2022, China’s total expenditure on the national education system amounted to 6.13 trillion yuan (US$850 billion), 6 percent more than the previous year.
Preschool education received 514 billion yuan, primary and middle school 2.7 trillion. High schools and higher education took up 956 billion yuan, and 1.6 trillion yuan, respectively.
There was a noteworthy increase in funding for vocational education. The total investment reached 660 billion yuan, up by close to 10 percent.
Per capita expenditure grew at all levels. For instance, in 2022, kindergartens welcomed 46 million children, at a per capita cost of 14,918 yuan each, up 7.3 percent.
Moreover, the report revealed the government's commitment to education. National fiscal funds, which constitute about 80 percent of education expenditure, hit 4.8 trillion yuan, up 5.8 percent.
