BASF opened two new buildings at its Shanghai innovation campus on Wednesday. As part of the third phase of the campus, BASF research in Shanghai serves a network of manufacturing facilities around the world.
The first phase of the campus was opened in November 2012, phase II was inaugurated in November 2015. BASF has invested 280 million euros (US$30 million, 2 billion yuan) in the campus. The world's largest chemical producer has some 10,000 researchers across the globe, 1,000 of them in China, with 700 at the Shanghai campus working on advanced materials, process engineering and environmental catalysts.
BASF produces and sells chemicals, plastics and pesticides with products including adhesives, fuel additives and paints.
BASF's two innovation campuses in the Asia-Pacific – another in Mumbai, India - bring together all parties involved in innovation to create solutions for local markets. The sites connect researchers, technicians, production and sales in an open platform that links BASF with its customers and scientific partners.
Last year, sales in China were worth 11.6 billion euros, 14 percent of BASF’s total.
