Baichuan Intelligence, founded by Wang Xiaochuan, the creator of search engine Sogou, has launched baichuan-7B, a large-scale language model with 7 billion parameters.
The model supports both Chinese and English and has been made available on platforms like Hugging Face, Github and Model Scope.
The company said the model can handle 50 percent more data than other Chinese pretrained models with similar parameters.
Peking University and Tsinghua University have started using baichuan-7B for research purposes and plan to collaborate closely with the company in its development.
Wang set up Baichuan in April to develop a Chinese version of OpenAI. The company immediately secured US$50 million (350 million yuan) in initial funding from personal support and industry connections.
