At the company’s ongoing intelligent-finance summit, Huawei Cloud unveiled GaussDB, a next-generation distributed database.
Domestically developed, GaussDB offers high security, along with ease of deployment and migration.
GaussDB is used in Huawei’s own IT and business systems. It is the only Chinese-made database that combines software and hardware with full-stack independence.
ZHANG Ping’an, CEO of Huawei Cloud, believes that the financial industry with its high database demands, will be the primary focus for GaussDB.

The domestication of databases in China has gained traction, particularly in the financial sector, where major players like Huawei, Alibaba and Tencent are pursuing almost every domestic financial institution, except their own, of course. The migration is driven mainly by big state-owned banks, while smaller banks have been slower due to limited IT budgets.
GaussDB addresses problems that have been difficult to solve with domestic databases. Ease and security of migration are emphasized, reducing transformation costs by more than 90 percent.
Huawei believes the digital financial market requires customized products and infrastructure through open-code applications.
