China Railway is spending around 50 billion yuan (US$7.03 billion) on high-speed trains, cargo trains and equipment, according to procurement biddings released on Monday.
This is China Railway’s largest procurement in three years. About 20 billion yuan will be used to purchase 103 high-speed trains (eight carriages each). Since 2019, China Railway has only bought 16 high-speed trains.
In the first four months, more than 1.1 billion people took trains in China, more than double the number traveling this time last year.
