Chinese telecom giant Huawei has launched its P60 smartphone in Munich, Germany, the first overseas launch in four years.
Europe used to be Huawei’s first choice to release flagship phones, but after US sanctions and the pandemic, it shifted its focus back home.
In Q1 2019, Huawei still occupied around 20 percent of the European market, trailing Samsung. But then came the sanctions, and the end of all Google services, a catastrophic blow to overseas business.
Huawei has since developed its own HMS core to replace Google. A source close to the matter told Jiemian News that as the pandemic is over, Huawei is planning to try the global market again, with Europe as the first stop and Africa, Southeast Asia and Latin America to come.

The overseas version of P60 will not have Huawei’s in-house developed Harmony OS but EMUI, to better suit the users’ habits.
