Telecom giant Huawei said on Tuesday that it plans to seek more opportunities in digital transformation and upgrades to a variety of businesses.

Huawei still faces many well-documented obstacles due to US sanctions, and B2B has become the main driving force of the company, along with Chinese government contracts.

Deepening engagement with industry

Huawei’s WU Hui who is in charge of the company’s government and B2B business has set a revenue target of 260 billion yuan (US billion) for his division by 2025. Huawei's B2B revenue in 2022 was 133 billion yuan.

Huawei has established three cross-departmental groups to cover dozens of industries including coal mining, intelligent highways and smart photovoltaics. The emphasis is on deepening engagement with the industry, focused on named account (NA) customers. Currently, Huawei has over 8,000 NA customers, but these large customers are not enough, and Huawei has set its sights on SMEs.

There are over 48 million SMEs nationwide, 99 percent of all businesses in the country, generating two-thirds of business revenue.  Their digital transformation will cost hundreds of billions of yuan and Huawei desperately needs a slice of that action.

Competition partners

YANG Chaobin, Huawei's president of Information and communication technology, believes that the future means competition among partner ecosystems. It is impossible for Huawei to directly reach all customers by itself, so partner ecosystems will be needed.

"The biggest difference between the government and enterprise market and Huawei's previous operation lies in the scale of customers. Government and enterprise customers are diverse, and their application scenarios and demands vary greatly," said Yang Chaobin.
