The May Day holiday is around the corner, but people are already on the move.
China Railway expects more than 120 million people to travel by train during the eight days from Thursday, up by 20 percent compared with 2019 and a record high. The travel peak will be Saturday when 19 million people will pass through train stations, higher than the Spring Festival exodus.
Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Administration of China said about 9 million people will take to the air during the holiday, far more than in 2019. But the numbers of international flights are still low.
Chinese and foreign airlines are expected to operate 3,500 international passenger flights, 30 percent of the level during the same period in 2019.
