Alibaba founder Jack Ma returns to China

Jack Ma is back in China.

The founder of e-commerce giant Alibaba and fintech company Ant Group visited a private school in Hangzhou, the city where he started his business in the 1990s Monday. He talked about the future of education with the school staff, according to the official WeChat account of the school, started by the Alibaba founders in 2017.

Over the past year, the billionaire had been spotted in Japan, Thailand, Spain, everywhere but China. After stepping down as an Alibaba executive in 2020, Ma kept a low profile.

Alibaba shares in the HKEX surged as much as 5 percent following the news but closed flat at HK$85.25.
