More than 1.5 billion trips were taken by rail, highway, water, and civil aviation during Chunyun, the Spring Festival travel rush, that began on January 7 this year and ended on Wednesday.
Some 350 million people made trips, 37 percent more than a year before and 85 percent of the figure for the 2019 rush.
Road travel was the first choice for short and medium-distance travel. Nearly 1.2 billion cars hit the expressways across China during the 40-day period, up by 17 percent compared with 2019.
The civil aviation sector also saw more passengers during the Spring Festival holiday. Over 55 million people took planes, 76 percent of 2019’s number.
