The new XPeng factory in Guangzhou has been approved and stands ready to begin making cars in March. The Guangzhou factory will produce the new XPeng G9, the EV startup’s latest model that debuted in September last year. The estimated annual production capacity of the factory is 100,000 cars.
XPeng has four models – the G3, P5, P7 and G9 – on the market right now. The other three models are made in the company’s Zhaoqing factory, also in Guangdong.
Authorities have tightened their grip on new approvals for EV factories since 2017. Most EV makers have been obliged to either find large automakers to work with or buy up carmakers with valid factories on the brink of bankruptcy.
