Presales for Taobao’s Singles Day shopping spree started at 8pm Monday. More than 290,000 brands worldwide will present over 17 million products to 1 billion customers eager to lay out their money.
Trudy Dai, co-founder of Alibaba and president overseeing domestic e-commerce, said Taobao had made “unprecedented changes” to make it easier for consumers and merchants to enjoy the event.
This year, Taobao has lowered the fee for merchants participating in the shopping event, Dai said. The rules are easier to understand and SaaS (software as a service) is provided to all shops.
“Both customers and sellers will find the logistics experience much better this year with their goods delivered quickly and safely,” Dai added.

Mega-influencers LUO Yonghao and former teachers from New Oriental who have been live streaming on Bytedance’s Douyin, will appear on Taobao this year.
