Xiaohe Health, a medical brand under TikTok owner ByteDance, has taken 100 percent control of Amcare Healthcare, a private institution providing high-end obstetric services. The acquisition price was about 10 billion yuan (US$1.5 billion).
Amcare owns seven women and children’s hospitals, two outpatient centers and five confinement centers, covering the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta region.
In September 2021, Xiaohe Health invested in Amcare Healthcare for the first time, taking 17.5 percent of the shares. Xiaohe Health (Hong Kong) Ltd and Xiaohe Health Technology (Beijing) Co. now hold 69.5 percent and 30.5 percent of shares in Amcare. Xiaohe Health is wholly owned by Douyin, a subsidiary of ByteDance. ByteDance’s existing business map has no signs of obstetrics and gynecology.
Xiaohe is associated with online consultations, medical awareness and specialist brick-and-mortar hospitals. It also has links to medical equipment.

Xiaohe debuted in the second half of 2020 as a restructured Toutiao Health. The Green Pine Fruit app became the Xiaohe app for patients and the Xiaohe Doctor app for professionals.
