There is an ancient saying goes: “ The life styles will be different from where 100 km away; the customs will be different from where 1000 km away.” On the vast land of China, the local practices differ from each other because of the diversity of ethnic cultures. 西双版纳坐落在中国的西南边陲，因雄浑壮阔的澜沧江而闻名于世。都说，不乘船游览澜沧江，就不算到了云南，可想而知，澜沧江堤岸的风光十分壮美。傣族人有自己的传统新年，也有自己独特而浪漫的庆祝方式，赛龙舟、泼水节和放天灯，就是节日的传统项目之一。
Xishuangbanna is located in the southwest of China, which is famous for the magnificent Lancang River. People say that if one who didn’t arrive to the Lancang River is the one who had never been to Yunnan, which is conceivable that how beautiful and magnificent the scenery of the Lancang river is. The Dai people have their own traditional New Year's day with their own unique and romantic way for celebration, and dragon boat racing, water-sprinkling festival, and setting off the lanterns are ones of the traditional events.
江上停泊着披红挂绿的龙舟，江边是盛装打扮的傣族人民。随着号令吹响，整齐划一的龙舟“唰”的一声蹿出，全场顿时传来爆竹声、锣鼓声、吆喝声、喝彩声，此起彼伏，将欢乐的节日气氛推到了高潮。岩汗罕就是一名传统的龙舟赛手，他说每个傣族男人都应该参加这一活动，这是傣族男儿勇气，决心和智慧的体现。
Dragon boats and the local people are all wonderfully dressed. When someone beat a drum to set the pace for the oarsmen, all the boats shot off immediately, and then there came the sound of firecrackers, drums, applause and cheers, which pushed the atmosphere to a climax. Yan Hanhan is a traditional oarsman, and he said that every man of the Dai nationality should participate in this activity, because it’s the representation of one’s courage and determination.
水是整个傣族新年的主题。举行了传统的赛事和浴佛后，就要迎来这场世界上规模最大的“打水仗”——泼水节。在傣族人看来，水象征着美好的愿景和心灵的纯净。多达10万人聚集在广场上肆意泼水，这不仅是对自己过去一年种种不顺的洗涤，也是将美好的祝愿带给别他人，所有人以全新的精神状态迎接新的一年。
Water is the topic of their New Year. After a traditional event and bathing the Buddha there will be the largest "water war" in the world —— the Water-Sprinkling Festival. The Dai national minority think that water is the symbol of good visions and the purity of the mind. As many as 100,000 people gather in the square sprinkling water wantonly, which will wash out all the bad things, bring the good wishes to others, and take a fresh spirit to the new year.
当夜幕渐渐降临，人声鼎沸的澜沧江边张灯结彩，光影憧憧。江上盏盏河灯与天上的孔明灯微微闪动，缓缓地连成一片，看上去就仿佛置身于一片暖黄色的星河之中。灯火寄托着人们最虔诚的祝愿，随着河流，顺着风，安静地渡向远方。
As the night falls, bright lights flash alive alongside the busy river. Those myriad-lighted boats become a riot of color which blends subtly with colors from the river’s reflected surface and row slowly and silently downstream. The lights carry the best wishes of people quietly to the far distance with streams and wind.
