Mixed fortunes for EV makers in May

In May, four new Chinese automaker brands each delivered more than 300 new vehicles each day.

GAC put 20,000 vehicles on the road. Li Auto and NETA delivered 11,000 each. NETA sales are particularly interesting, with the company previously languishing much further down the league table. Last month, the NETA appointed CHEN Ciliang as the chief brand officer.

Fourth-placed XPeng delivered only 10,000 vehicles. NIO, the biggest loser, has fallen further behind the leaders and persists in finding ways to blame to the pandemic for its poor performance.

Last month, 4,000 buyers opted for a Zeekr, Geely’s premium EV, despite price increases. The average price of a Zeekr now exceeds 335,000 yuan (US$50,000).
