Recently, many employees exposed that China’s Q&A platform Zhihu has started a new round of mass layoffs, with more than 400 employees being trimmed, including probationary employees and staff who just got promotions. The layoffs covered businesses such as education, commercialization, community, technology, ecological governance, and public affairs. Over 30 percent of the staff from the commercialization team is to be laid off.
An employee from Zhihu’s community team told Jiemian News that there were nearly 3,000 employees in the company’s WeChat group, but by last Thursday, the number had decreased by more than 400.
Zhihu responded that the changes were a normal optimization and adjustment of business and organization.
Since 2022, Zhihu has been exposed to layoffs several times. In Q1 this year, its total revenue was 743 million yuan, up 55.4 percent, but a month-over-month decline of 27.09 percent. The net loss was 614 million yuan, up 89.19 percent.
