China’s national emissions trading scheme (ETS) came into operation last year, obliging more than 2,000 large emitters in the power sector to count their emissions in 2019 and 2020. More than 100 enterprises have not completed compliance, settlement and payment of allowances. The non-performing enterprises include Baofeng Energy and Qinghai Salt Lake.
Businesses have been fined up to 30,000 yuan (US$4500). Another 16 enterprises have yet to be penalized since they are involved in account closures and lawsuits.
