Dong Fang Ji Bai (East Dawning), a Chinese fast-food chain owned by Yum China, will cease operations this year. Founded in Shanghai in 2004, Dong Fang Ji Bai was the “Chinese equivalent” of KFC and could often be found next to a KFC, also owned by Yum.
In the days when KFC opened 100 new branches in China every year, Dong Fang Ji Bai struggled to expand. From 2004 to 2008, only 13 new shops were opened in Shanghai.
The food review app Dazhong Dianping suggests there are only five Dong Fang Ji Bai left in China, but Jiemian News found two in Shanghai are already closed.
