Indian tax authorities searched several of Huawei’s premises on February 16 during an ongoing tax-evasion investigation. Some account books and documents were seized.

“We are aware of what happened in India,” a spokesman for Huawei told Jiemian News. “Our operation there closely follows the regulations. We are cooperating with the investigation.”

A few weeks ago, Huawei secured a 127 million yuan (US$20 million) order from Bharti Airtel, the second-largest telecom operator in India.

In December, tax authorities began tax investigating Chinese smartphone makers including Xiaomi and OPPO. In January, the Ministry of Finance of India said Xiaomi had broken tax and customs laws. The company was ordered to correct 560 million yuan of unpaid taxes. Xiaomi insisted it has not broken any laws and did not accept the ministry's findings.
