Fun-loving Bing Dwen Dwen, the Olympic mascot, has served the Games well, shipping countless tons of branded merchandise. As if worldwide fame and adulation were not enough, the cuddly cartoon panda has now pierced the crypto sphere. China’s social media is alive with tips on how to buy Bing Dwen Dwen NFTs (non-fungible tokens).
The tokens issued by nWayPlay, an NFT marketplace owned by Hong Kong-based game company Animoca Brands, were sold out in less than three days and have changed hands for as much as twenty times the issue price of US$99.
The trading platform is inaccessible in China, but that certainly doesn’t stop people from talking about, and trying to get their hands on, Bing Dwen Dwen’s bounty.
A simple game on the nWayPlay app gives players to win the NFTs. The game, Olympic Games Jam: Beijing 2022, was developed in collaboration with the International Olympic Committee and uses Flow, a blockchain that supports NFTs and games.
