A total of 14 members of an unofficial fansub group were arrested for copyright infringement, said Shanghai police on Wednesday.
The group, according to the police, is YYeTs, the largest of its kind in China. Posts from BBS Douban suggested that the fansub group’s website became unavailable since January 6.
The police said after three months of investigation, it busted up YYeTs and seized 20 computers, 12 servers and 16 million yuan (US$2.94 million) involved in the case.
The police said the fansub group, led by a man named Liang, founded three companies since 2018 and rented servers from overseas to offer pirated versions of foreign dramas and movies, more than 8 million people have registered with YYeTs.
