On January 14, the world’s first 100,000-ton deepwater semi-submersible platform was put into use in Yantai, Shandong province. The oil platform will be used for China’s first ultra-deepwater natural gas reservoir, according to China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC.)
The semi-submersible can store nearly 20,000 cubic meters of oil, the fatigue life of which up to 150 years. The integrated function of the oil platform includes the production, storage and transportation of condensate oil, according to CNOOC.
CNOOC said the semi-submersible is expected to be ready for production in June after it finished rounds of tests.
