ByteDance's next-generation Doubao AI smartphone may launch later than originally planned as it undergoes regulatory approval procedures, according to people familiar with the matter.
The device requires both regulatory filing approval for its AI model and network access certification for mobile handsets before it can be commercially released, the sources said.
ByteDance began the approval process in January 2026, but the initial application did not receive approval and a subsequent filing remains under review, according to one source. If approvals proceed smoothly, the device could debut as early as July or August, the person said.
According to supply-chain information cited by Lanjinger.com, BOE may replace Tianma as the display supplier for the new model, while Desay Battery is expected to supply battery packs using cells from ATL. Contract manufacturing is reportedly being handled by CNCE, a subsidiary of Furi Electronics.
