Xiaomi has launched its first AI glasses, priced from 1,999 yuan and now available for sale. CEO LEI Jun introduced the product Thursday evening at the company's "Human x Car x Home" launch, calling it "a personal smart device for the next era."

Positioned as a portable AI gateway, the glasses let users ask Xiaomi's voice assistant Xiao AI about whatever they see, with instant responses. The device supports first-person video recording for fitness, cooking, childcare and more—triggered by the voice command "Xiao AI, start recording." It also works with third-party apps for livestreaming and video calls.

Weighing just 40 grams and optimized for Asian facial features, the glasses can be worn all day and function as open-ear headphones.

As of launch day, over 32,000 users had reserved the product on JD.com, signaling strong interest in AI wearables. Major players are racing to enter the space. Baidu has released AI-native glasses powered by Chinese large models, while Sharge has lowered the price bar with sub-1,000 yuan offerings. Huawei and RayNeo have also launched competing products.

Reports of Xiaomi's AI glasses first surfaced in late 2024, with the product reportedly developed in partnership with GoerTek. It received regulatory approval in January, and the brand's official Weibo account went live in February.

Guotai Junan Securities says AI glasses are a key potential platform for large language models, offering a hands-free, multimodal interface combining vision, sound and speech. According to a March forecast by IDC, global smart glasses shipments are expected to reach 12.05 million units in 2025, with audio and camera-equipped models accounting for nearly half.
