As China and the European Union mark 50 years of diplomatic relations and China and Italy celebrate 55 years of ties, the third edition of the global art initiative Shanghai in My Mind opened in Milan on June 6. The event, part of the "Charming Shanghai" city branding campaign, was held at the Rotonda della Besana, a 400-year-old cultural landmark.
The exhibition opened with a pipa and violin performance blending Chinese and Italian musical traditions. On display were 40 artworks themed on "Impressions of Shanghai," created by 17 artists and designers from China, Italy, France, Japan, New Zealand, and the United States.
The event is part of a series marking the 55th anniversary of China-Italy diplomatic relations. It was organized by the Information Office of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and the Shanghai Design Capital Promotion Center, with support from the Chinese Consulate General in Milan, the Milan Mayor's Office, Milano & Partners, and the Italy-China Council Foundation.
Representatives from Italy's art, fashion, design, and finance sectors attended the opening. The Chinese Consulate described the exhibition as a cultural dialogue between the two cities and a symbol of ongoing mutual appreciation.
Italian guests emphasized the role of cultural exchange in deepening city-level ties and promoting broader cooperation. The Italy-China Council Foundation also expressed support for future collaboration between the two countries.
The event attracted coverage from Italian mainstream and art-focused media. Art influencers on social media helped extend its reach to a broader international audience.
