BYD is closing the gap with Tesla in the EV sector, narrowing the difference to just a thousand units after surpassing 300,000 units in sales for two consecutive months.
BYD is now ramping up efforts to expand overseas, with a particular focus on Europe, recruiting personnel with expertise and linguistic proficiency. In addition to a basic salary and performance incentives, overseas positions offer daily allowances ranging from 80 euros (600 yuan, US$90) to 100 euros.
BYD in Europe covers 19 countries. This year global sales have witnessed a 75-percent increase, as BYD also accelerates its endeavors in the Japanese market.
While Japan presents a challenge due to the dominance of local manufacturers, BYD has shifted to a dealership model in Japan, recognizing the importance of direct customer engagement. LIU Xueliang, BYD's Asia-Pacific regional manager, emphasized the difficulty of capturing Japanese drivers’ needs through online channels.
Atsuki Tofukuji, president of BYD's Japanese distribution subsidiary, is the former head of Volkswagen Japan. BYD is forming agreements with local dealers and parts retailers.
BYD has sold 200,000 cars overseas this year, more than triple the total for the entire previous year.
