Market research firm BCI has released China’s smartphone activation figures for November. A total of 28.7 million devices were activated, up 12.7 percent year on year.
Apple claimed the top position with a 21.1 percent market share, followed by Xiaomi at 18.3 percent, YoY growth of 44.1 percent. Honor and Huawei secured the third and fourth positions, with Huawei up by 75.6 percent.
Above 4,000 yuan (US$560), Apple held 50.8 percent, followed by Huawei at 22.3 percent, and Xiaomi at 14.4 percent. Apple still sits on top of the table, but its market share shrank 21.2 percent with Huawei and Xiaomi collecting almost the same amount.
During this year's Singles Day shopping festival, the Xiaomi 14 Series secured the top spot for domestic smartphones. This came as a surprise, even to Xiaomi. The success of the 14 is down to the rise of small “flagship” phones, with standard screen sizes.
The success of the 14 series is related to its launch during Singles Day, as online channels are Xiaomi's main sales area.
When the series was released, competing models from other brands such as Honor and Vivo had not been launched. From December until the Spring Festival, Xiaomi 14 will undoubtedly face greater competitive pressure.
