Luxury car maker Audi may be ready to use BYD lithium iron phosphate batteries in its domestically-made Q6 e-tron.
The Q6 is currently set up for CATL batteries and the decision to switch BYD has not been confirmed.
BYD unveiled a blade battery in March 2020, supplying various BYD models and other manufacturers. In the first nine months of this year, BYD held 15.8 percent of the battery market, second only to CATL.
A new Audi factory in northeast China’s Changchun will be completed by the end of the year, and Audi the Q6L e-tron will roll off the assembly line there next year. From 2024, the A6 e-tron series will also be assembled there.
The e-tron series relies on the highly modular and scalable Premium Platform Electric (PPE) and China has seen a total investment in the project of 2.6 billion euros (US$2.8 billion or 20 billion yuan). Annual production is expected to be around 150,000 vehicles.
