The first domestically produced offshore gas turbine, Taihang-7, was put into operation on October 29 at the Lufeng 8-1 oil and gas platform, approximately 180 kilometers southeast of Shenzhen.
This generator has impressive capabilities, offering both high power output and energy efficiency. With a capacity of 7 megawatts, Taihang-7 can generate 5,000 kilowatts of electricity in a single hour, which is equivalent to the daily power consumption of 500 households or the daily energy needs of a sea drilling platform and can reduce coal usage by 29,200 tons, cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 79,400 tons.
Until now, China has relied on imported turbines, dealing with extended transportation times, high costs, and maintenance challenges. A turbine with China's own intellectual property rights is expected to reduce costs by 15 percent. All core components of Taihang-7 are domestically manufactured.
