The Jiyue 01, the mid-range smart SUV by Geely and Baidu, was launched on Friday, with prices ranging from 24,990 (US$34,000) yuan. At the launch, CEO XIA Yiping, declared that for smart driving, intelligence is standard, and everything else is optional.
Jiyue 01 is the first domestic production model with “pure visual” perception, which only Tesla has in mass production.
Similarly to the way humans perceive and recognize objects with their eyes, pure visual perception requires advanced processing of image data collected by cameras, transforming it into 3D images.
The advantages of visual-based approaches which do not rely on high-definition maps, lower the cost of intelligent driving make it available everywhere.
“In the future, end-to-end, map-free direction is inevitable,” said Xia. “Many people are still thinking about over-the-air technology, but many capabilities no longer need it. It’s already a completely data-driven iteration.”
Since Jiyue started out in 2021, the computing power of intelligent automotive chips has increased significantly. Competition is no longer about traditional hardware but rather about computing power. The Jiyue 01 series comes with the Qualcomm 8295 and dual Nvidia Drive Orin chips.
The voice algorithm is locally stored, ensuring that the voice assistant can function normally, even offline.
