The iPhone 15 series hasn't received anything like the same level of enthusiasm as its predecessors in China.
Customers can now purchase an iPhone 15 with 128GB of storage for as little as 5,200 yuan (US$710), more than 800 yuan below its official price. While price reductions for base models were common in previous series, the discount for Pro is surprising, one can now get an iPhone 15 Pro for 8,398 yuan from e-commerce platforms, much lower than the 8,999 yuan official price.
Looking back, when the iPhone 14 series was launched in 2022, some models were still selling for hundreds of yuan above their original prices a month after release.
The price reductions can be attributed to a couple of factors.
Firstly, the iPhone 15 series faces intense competition with the Huawei Mate 60 series, which was launched in the same month.
Additionally, complaints about overheating have spooked Apple fans.
Moreover, with one of the biggest online shopping festivals approaching, the discounts on iPhones through e-commerce platforms may be part of a strategy to entice consumers, especially given that major online retailers have emphasized "low prices" for the event.
