Daojia, the one-hour delivery platform operated by JD.com, now caters to customers within five kilometers of stores. Previously one-hour delivery came with a three-kilometer limit.
Instant delivery services have become a focal point for e-commerce platforms struggling to find an edge over one another, growing by 51.6 percent from 2019 but still only accounting for 5 percent of online sales.
It’s mostly about groceries with Ele.me (Alibaba), Meituan (Tencent), Douyin and Pinduoduo all in on the act. Daojia now has 300,000 merchants and JD.com is ready to spend hundreds of millions of yuan on the upcoming Single’s Day shopping festival.
Daojia has a five-year plan to transform more than 2 million retailers and expects over 10 million "jobs" in the gig economy.
