Since the exodus of the the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday kicked off on September 27, over 160 million passengers have been transported nationwide by the railway system by October 6, according to the China Railway Group.
This year's Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday saw an early start and a substantial increase in passenger volume. On September 29, a historic high was reached with over 20 million passengers in a single day.
The Yangtze River Delta Region (Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Anhui provinces and Shanghai), representing one-fifth of the national passenger flow, maintained a daily passenger sending volume of over 3 million for a continuous 8-day period, from September 29 to October 6.
